Overall rating: A+
Median Home Price: $482,500
Why We Love It: Known for its high-end homes, beautiful parks and open spaces, and its upscale shops and businesses, North Bethesda is an elegant community tucked between Bethesda and Rockville. It’s located about 12 miles from DC, so a bit more of a drive, but does have a stop on the Red Line metro for added convenience. It doesn’t have quite the fun downtown scene of Bethesda, but it’s certainly not short on businesses or amenities.

home for sale in potomac md

Overall Rating: A+
Median Home Price: $921,100
Why We Love It: If you’re looking for luxury, you’re sure to find it in Potomac. With a refined suburban feel and plenty of parks and natural beauty, Potomac feels quite a world apart from the urban bustle of DC. But that’s not to say it doesn’t have plenty of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and other conveniences and businesses, many of which are located in the central Potomac Village Shopping Center. It’s a bit farther from DC—about 14 miles—but well worth the drive for that refined suburban elegance.

Rockville is also home to many beautiful parks and trails, elegant golf courses and country clubs, and many shopping and dining options. Its central Town Square is a charming Downtown scene of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, and is a favorite among residents and visitors alike. Rockville is about 15 miles from DC, and it has a Metro station on the Red Line.

Why We Love It: Gaithersburg is home to some totally fantastic new and established communities, including award-winning neighborhoods like Kentlands, Lakelands, The Rio, and Mill Town Center. It’s probably the most affordable community on this list, and even though it’s the fourth-largest community in Maryland, you’d never know from its small-town feel. Bonus: Gaithersburg is also great for commuters. Its Shady Grove station is on the Red Line, and it also has a MARC commuter rail stop at Olde Town and Metropolitan Grove.
